Annual meeting of the Agricultural Economics Society (AES) Presented by Prof. Dr.Zahoor ul Haq
Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Arts, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, presented the annual meeting of the prestigious Agricultural Economics Society (AES) held in University of Warwick from 16 to 18 April, 2012. He was the only Pakistani academician presented in the conference this year, another high point for Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Pakistan. AES, founded in 1926, is one of the world's oldest and leading associations of professional and academic agricultural economists. The society publishes Journal of Agricultural Economics, a leading academic journal in the field, of agricultural economics having impact of 1.0, ranked 6/14 in agricultural economics and policy journals.
Dr. zahoor presentedon “Do Preferential Trade Agreements Increase Members’ Agri-food Trade?”His study estimates the effect of a diverse group of 30 preferential trade agreements (PTAs) on members’ trade of 26 agri-food products for 40 countries. The study covers leading multilateral and bilateral preferential trade agreements including the European Union (EU), European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Latin American Free Trade Agreement, Central American Common Market, Economic Customs Union of the Central African States, Australia–New Zealand Closer Economic Relations, US–Canada, Central Europe Free Trade Agreement, EFTA–Hungary, EFTA–Poland, EFTA–Romania, EU–Hungary, EU–Poland, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Costa Rica–Mexico, EU–Romania, Group of Three, Mercado Comun del Sur (Mercosur), Andean Community, Mercosur–Chile, Canada–Chile, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Hungary–Turkey, India–Sri Lanka, Romania–Turkey, Romania–Turkey, Mexico–Chile, EU–Mexico and Poland–Turkey.
